In the UK and New Zealand this month, Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated on the 5th to commemorate the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot. In 1605, a number of conspirators including Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, England. Nowadays, every year on the 5th November all around the UK, celebrations take place in towns and villages with fireworks displays and the building of bonfires on which “guys” are burnt.
